Setmore's free plan has no deposits, SMS or two-way sync. Compare 6 Setmore alternatives for 2027 on price, deposits, reminders and AI booking.
Setmore pulls you in with a free plan. Then you find out what the free plan can't do. No deposits, so no-shows cost you money. No text reminders, only one email. No two-way calendar sync. To get any of that, you pay for Pro, per user, for every staff calendar.
If that is why you are looking for Setmore alternatives, this guide is for you. Below we lay out where Setmore falls short, with sources, then compare six alternatives: RazorBooking, Acuity Scheduling, SimplyBook.me, YouCanBookMe, Book Like A Boss and Calendly. Further down, we compare Setmore's pricing plan by plan.
We make RazorBooking, so we list it first, with the same pros and cons as every other tool. Every fact about the other tools comes from the vendor's own pages, checked in October 2026.
The short list
Best Setmore alternative for salons, clinics and service businesses: RazorBooking
Best for intake forms, packages and gift certificates: Acuity Scheduling
Best free plan with SMS and WhatsApp reminders: SimplyBook.me
Best for simple branded booking pages: YouCanBookMe
Best for freelancers who sell sessions with coupons: Book Like A Boss
Best for booking meetings and sales calls: Calendly
Best for AI that answers your phone: RazorBooking, with SimplyBook.me as the other option
Why people leave Setmore: 6 problems users keep reporting
These are the limits that come up again and again, on Setmore's own pricing page and in user reviews.
1. The free plan is a waiting room for Pro
Setmore's free plan gives you unlimited appointments for up to 4 users. But look at what it leaves out: deposits, SMS reminders, two-way calendar sync, recurring appointments, video appointments, custom availability per service and the option to block a problem customer. You get one email reminder, and Setmore's branding stays on your page. For a real business, that is not a plan you can run on. It is a trial with no end date, built to move you to Pro.
2. You pay per user, and the price isn't clear
Pro is billed per user, and every staff calendar counts as a user. Setmore's pricing page shows Pro at $5 per user per month on annual billing, but it also shows a $12 figure without saying what it is. If you can't tell what you will pay before you sign up, that is a problem in itself.
3. Booking rules are one-size-fits-all
A studio instructor on Reddit, quoted in Pabau's Setmore review, pointed out that "you can't set different minimum booking notice per service." If a facial needs 48 hours' notice and a quick consultation needs 2, Setmore applies one rule to both. A G2 reviewer had the same kind of problem: "It doesn't allow us to code days as a specific service only for set days," such as virtual appointments only on Tuesdays. Custom availability per service is a Pro feature.
4. Calendar sync drops
G2 reviewers describe Google Calendar sync that needs "frequent reconnections that disrupt scheduling." On Capterra, users write "it is not always syncing" and "calendar integration is not working for android phones." Two-way sync is only on Pro.
5. It thins out once your business grows
Reviewers say Setmore "isn't built for selling courses of treatment or bundled sessions," and that "managing larger teams gets fiddly" (both quoted in Pabau's review). On Capterra, one business owner wrote that it doesn't "generate financial reports and the POS integration is very limited," and another wrote, "I can't use a custom domain."
6. No WhatsApp, and no AI answering
Setmore's pages do not mention WhatsApp reminders or any AI that answers calls. Its answer to missed calls is Live Receptionist: real people, $99 a month on top of your plan, and US only.
When Setmore is still the right tool
Setmore is well liked for basic booking. It has 4.9 stars on Trustpilot from more than 3,000 reviews and 4.6 on Capterra from 960. If you are a small team that only needs clients to pick a time, and you never take deposits, Setmore can work. The alternatives below are for businesses that need more than that.

How we compared these tools
We reviewed each vendor's public pricing and product pages in October 2026, and read Setmore's reviews on G2, Capterra and Trustpilot, plus published Setmore reviews, to find the complaints that come up most often. We compared the tools on price, free plan, fit for appointment-based businesses, payments and deposits, reminders and AI booking. We did not run hands-on tests of the other tools. When a vendor's page did not mention a feature, we marked it as not stated instead of assuming it is missing.
We make RazorBooking, so we have a stake in the result. Plans and prices change, so check each vendor's site before you buy.
